Session 2
|
Task 1
In your assigned group, complete the following activities into your books: - Create a table to clearly compare the similarities and differences of two-dimensional and three- dimensional shapes. - What are the key features of a three dimensional object (groups with correct terms will get a point) - Provide examples of three dimensional objects found in the real world When time is up, the class will discuss their responses. [Approx: 10 Min] Task 2 Log into Minecraft and access purple room to collect your resources and materials for this session. Once you have done so, stick with your team mates and head down to the purple area. Spot the cow, Ruth the horse and Chloe the sheep is asking for your help to create safe fences to protect them from Herobrine who visits almost every night. However, it is your job as builders to meet their specific preferences. - Spot and his family loves shapes which has corners. He and his family is quite large which means that he needs a fence that covers at least 40 square meters and no more than 50 square meters. - Ruth only has her husband Joey and doesn't need quite an exquisite home. They both love shapes with equal sides so that they can run around smoothly. Ruth and her husband wants her total area for fence to be between 20- 30 square meters - Chloe and her family are quite extreme. They come in a lot of different colours which means that they are quite special. Chloe prefers her fence to be quite irregular and stands out from the rest of the group. her total area should cover no more than 45 square meters Your job in teams is to design a two dimensional fence around their current homes to meet each and everyone's specific preference. Using your books, you will also calculate the perimeter and area of each fence and explain your reasoning behind the shapes you would use. [Approx: 10 Min] |
Task 3
Within the Purple area, you will notice pre built structures. You and your team must work together to identify the relationship of each three-dimensional shape and their two dimensional counter part.(e.g cube - square) Place a sign on the coloured blocks representing your team, with a suggestion of how each structure can be used within the real world. Points will be awarded to teams who can come up with the most creative application. [Approx: 15 Min] Task 4 Steve The Zombie has tried to imitate the three dimensional objects found in the real world. However, he tends to forget a lot of things and is only as smart as his zombie brain. Steve's imitations of the three dimensional shapes are very limited Your group will have to finish his design for him and explain to him the each shapes individual unique feature, but be careful, you are only given a limited number of materials so use them wisely! Groups will have their own chests with specific materials that you will use to accomplish this task [Approx: 15 Min] Image source: https://www.flickr.com/photos/legoguiden/6406261525/in/photolist-aL6LmV-9n4QkV-9q2YYW-adxySd-dNhkYd-8EV62v-dKeVbb-9A2vug-e9D1eQ-dNhmZY-dNhmAS-anxkzJ-avwEJH-aduJLn-fmT9yC-9GabRp-9PPMBa-bmwbqL-chwRM9-aARH8j-8J9sWc-8N8y4u-8N5sYM-8E8tDD-9nHymj-986Zev-8LrQzR-8LrQoR-bziPtp-991Tr2-buzArK-9Gd61j-iFfBXE-ebDxNH-bzXeZB-8N5sst-9WUeMx-bzXeXK-9ZbDZd-bUJPu3-by5nMa-fP5e1j-8E6nTE-mZtS9q-9AAyB3-8DUXdS-nUX8Ud-9oHmoC-a8uLh8-fHeCmf Banner: https://www.flickr.com/photos/116160885@N04/13777612344/in/photolist-bUJPu3-by5nMa-fP5e1j-8E6nTE-mZtS9q-9AAyB3-8DUXdS-nUX8Ud-9oHmoC-a8uLh8-fHeCmf-fGX3QH-fGX3LP-hp2nsB-g9Y8Sr-fzrYM8-cJxTgy-p25Xh4-9GabV4-a1i8Q3-buoxZc-b61672-fHeCdh-cJAzP7-e4JdfP-c1sKXb-9MuHt7-buoyd4-eGv27S-fGX3yT-dLN7PV-dKu2As-9YTGZE-bm45JY-cLsmMf-jDcLoq-mDAKfG-mzGTD8-dy1L7k-emegGf-bm1Px6-aKHMGX-dK9r4e-cJuRVs-icPzbt-cjFmQY-dp1SbW-iZb1Cb-atdVcF-8ZxHPA |
